Building work that is value for money
The environmental costs of building
When it comes to building and construction, the techniques that some firms or individual contractors employ can leave a great deal to be desired especially in terms of their implications for the protection of the environment and ecosystem.
Many builders source materials without due regard towards the costs to the environment. As an example; some use non-renewable timber and non-ethically sourced stones that can cause serious environmental damage. These materials can never be replaced in the natural context and so can cause permanent damage to the environment where they have been sourced.
Not all builders consider the cost of their activities to the environment. This is often due to their ignorance towards the damage they might be causing or simply because they do not care. They use excess electricity and water sources that can cause genuine environmental damage. In addition, wasting energy will also add to the cost of the building project that their customer has to pay for.
There have been numerous occasions when builders have been accused of not undertaking environmental audits prior to commencing a particular job. This can lead not only to major environmental and ecological damage, but may also be dangerous to the natural inhabitants of endangered species, plants or insects.
It is far from unknown for some builders to still use construction techniques that are alien to reputable businesses such as Bromley & Gaines. This can involve using out-of-date equipment that is far from energy efficient or machinery that can pollute the air, soil or water basin by omitting harmful gases. Too many builders have no knowledge whatsoever about energy efficiency in a home. This may manifest by an excessive use of a customer’s electricity by the use of energy-eating tools or inefficient heating equipment. Similarly, they fail to advise customers on the most energy and cost efficient appliances to install such as central heating and boilers. As a consequence, their clients have to live with extraordinarily high energy and water bills, with additional costs to the environment.
There is absolutely no need for building work to harm the environment
Bromley and Gaines employees have been trained to use the most efficient and environmentally friendly practices at every stage during any build work. This ensures that, as builders, we are doing everything we can to ensure that the local ecology is preserved as robustly as is practicable. There are so many examples of ways that we work towards protecting your environment.
The increasing use of solar panels on our new build properties. We are encouraging households, and businesses, to consider the benefits of solar power when they commission a new property. In addition, we advise on fitting solar panels to existing properties to increase their energy conservation and reduce household energy costs
Bromley & Gaines are proud to be one of the market innovators in the use of ground source heat pumps. These take the natural heat found in the ground as a source of energy that can be used to heat water and other domestic energy dependant appliances. Unlike solar panels that rely on sunlight to reach maximum efficiency; heat pumps are less reliant on the weather
The materials we select to use on all of our build projects are the most environmentally friendly and sustainable as practicable. We choose ‘green’ products as a matter of course, but will be happy to discuss any specific needs you may have that relate to environmental friendly issues
Avoiding pollution to groundwater in our building work is major factor that we take extremely seriously. It is company policy to also ensure that waste is minimised. Whenever possible, discarded materials will be recycled. Another factor that we build into our construction work is to pay particular attention to maintaining the existing landscaping and ecological features of your property.
Whenever possible, when conserving the existing environmental features surrounding your home, we will suggest ways of improving the natural appeal by planting trees and shrubs
When we undertake any work in your home, we realise that any pets that you may have live there too. We are most respectful of their routines and comfort by ensuring they are not disturbed unduly. To ensure that they are not distressed, we keep them away from any building activity and materials that might harm them. We give the same levels of respect to all animals irrespective of whether they are domestic pets, livestock or wild animals that share close proximity to your home. It is also Bromley & Gaines’ policy to ensure there is only the necessary minimal use of chemical products in our building or finishing work
The Bromley & Gaines environmental advantage
